Believe it or not, I wasn’t born with sawdust in my blood. Over the years, I’ve pursued a wide range of passions — music, photography, video, web development, graphic design and now woodworking. While that might seem like a crazy path, I’ve come to realize they’re more similar than you think. They’re all creative pursuits, and when you’re done, you’ve made something that wasn’t there before. That’s kind of amazing, and it’s something I think everyone should have the opportunity to experience.

What led me to woodworking? Photography, actually. I was planning to exhibit some of my photos, and I decided to have them framed. That’s when I realized how crazy expensive framing is, so I decided to put my high school wood shop skills to work and build my own. The result was less than ideal, but it got me thinking. Now, Make Something lets me bring all my previous passions together — I get to design the projects, create the music, edit the video and whatever else.

The thing about creativity is that it starts with your individual imagination. When I produce a video for YouTube, my goal is not necessarily to give you a recipe that you follow to the letter and build an exact replica (although if you want to, knock yourself out). My goal is to inspire your own natural creativity — to think about how the ideas I present can fit with your space and your style. And above all, I hope you’re inspired to Make Something.
