On This day I'd like to do a "podcast" of great importance you see-

My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends

Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends

So, oh, Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?

Once upon a time, there lived a person who couldn't care less about Janis Joplin's iconic song, "Mercedes Benz." This non-fan, let's call them Alex, was more into the music of his day- Metallica, Huey Lewis, Motley Crue.

One day, as Alex was driving along, he stumbled upon the unmistakable sound of Janis Joplin's raspy voice singing about wanting a Mercedes Benz. The lyrics seemed to echo through the airwaves, reaching Alex's ears with a mix of curiosity and indifference. Mainly why is this horrid song on my iPhone.

"I don't need no fancy car," Alex mumbled to themselves, wondering what the fuss was all about. The song seemed like a whimsical plea for materialistic desires, and while Alex could connect with the sentiment. He just could not stand the raspy undertones of that voice. As the verses unfolded, with Janis asking for a color TV and a night on the town, the voice crawled on his skin, like a thousand centipedes.

"Is this what people go crazy about?" they wondered, failing to grasp the allure of the simple, acapella track. In the world of Alex, where authenticity and raw emotion were valued, the polished wish list in the lyrics had him longing for auto-tune.

As the chorus repeated, "Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?" Alex found himself rolling his eyes. He couldn't fathom how others could be so enamored with a song that seemed, in his eyes, to glamorize the extrondary lack of talent.

Despite his lack of enthusiasm for the song, Alex couldn't escape the cultural significance of "Mercedes Benz." It played at parties, on the radio, and even in movies. It became a soundtrack to moments he couldn't avoid, and Janis Joplin's voice lingered in the background of their life, like an uninvited guest.

In the end, Alex might not have become a fan of "Mercedes Benz," but he learned to tolerate its presence in the vast musical landscape. And so, in this tale of indifferent ears, the song played on, leaving Alex to his own preferred tunes and a world that continued to sing along to the iconic lyrics of Janis Joplin.

Why? Because “On This Day”, January 12 1971, the melodic tune of Mercedes-Benz by Janice Joplin was released 350 days before Alex entered this world. Yeah it was kind of a boring day in automotive history, and maybe you disagree with Alex. But that is No Driving Gloves, a gloves off approach to the automotive hobby.
