Bentley Motors, known for luxury and craftsmanship, started in London, England. Founded “On This Day” January 18, 1919, by W.O. Bentley, the brand aimed for excellence in sports cars with power and style. Bentley became famous for quality engineering and racing success.

With Wo Bentley at the helm Bently Motors created legendary gentleman GT style cars, that encompassed a mix speed, luxury and stature. The Bentley boys, wealthy British racers, helped the brand reputation by winning prestigious races such as the 24-hour Le Mans. These wins showed Bentley's skills and durability that only added to its image.

In 1931, Unable to meet mortgage payments on their facility, a receiver was appointed in July 1931 to liquidate the company. While offers were received for the company, the British Central Equitable Trust submitted the winning bid of £125,000. Who was BCE? Rolls-Royce. This cloak of secrecy allowed Rolls Royce to gain control of Bentley without anyone being none the wiser, until the sale was completed . This changed the brand as Bentley cars took on features from Rolls-Royce vehicles. Even with fears of losing its identity, Bentley made cars that combined the best of both brands.

After World War II, Bentley faced challenges. In the 1950s, Rolls-Royce had money troubles and Bentley models looked more like Rolls-Royce cars. In the 1970s, Vickers PLC gave Bentley some independence and a focus on luxury performance cars culminating in the late 1980’s and early 90’s with the legendary swan song Bentley Turbo R.

As the Turbo R production came to a close, Bentley would change hands again and on July 3, 1998, Volkswagen acquired the Bentley brand. This brought new resources and ideas to the brand, along with a goal to create a global brand. Under Volkswagen, Bentley made models like the Continental GT that mixed modern technology with luxury and performance.

Bentley offers a luxurious driving experience with the latest technology and top performance. The brand appeals to a new generation who loves quality and style. Bentley Motors has a long history of blending tradition with innovation.

From racing to changes in ownership, Bentley shows resilience and commitment to excellence. As they keep making amazing luxury cars, Bentley stands as a symbol of timeless elegance. Each model is not just a car, but a masterpiece on wheels.
